  1. #200 Best Public Middle Schools in CaliforniaNewcomb AcademyLong Beach Unified School District, CA·K-8·Rating 5 out of 5 1 reviewAlum: Newcomb is a safe school with great teachers and a cool new campus. I went there since kindergarten all the way to eighth grade and I grew academically. The school had a low population which makes it great to learn. However, since it is a small learning community, I did not grow socially because I grew up with everyone. This made the transition to high school somewhat of a struggle. Newcomb is a super safe and excellent school for anyone to go to.... Jefferson Leadership AcademiesLong Beach Unified School District, CA·6-8·Rating 4.33 out of 5 3 reviewsAlum: When I was attending Jefferson Leadership Academies back in 2006-2008, I truly enjoyed my middle school days. Back then all the boys and girls were separated when it came to classes such as English, History, Math, etc. The only time boys and girls were co-ed was during electives such as band, orchestra, avid. I loved the way how the academic learning process because separating boys and girls in a class room helped me become a better student where I was able to focus on my studies and education without the distractions that I could be facing if boys were in my class. During that time, becoming a teenager the lack of attention was definitely not set on studies but attending Jefferson Leadership Academies, it has helped me set my priorities and truly focused myself through my studies.... Our staff as well as teachers are always willing and there when we need them no matter the day. We pick each other up instead of watching one other walk with there head down. 22. Lindbergh STEM AcademyLong Beach Unified School District, CA·6-8·Rating 4 out of 5 1 reviewMiddle School Student: The administration, teachers, food, and diversity are overall pretty good. While it is trying to incorporate arts into the school, it's obviously more of a math and science focused school. While the school is overall great, the students are a different story. The students are quite nosy, rude, and have driven off some teachers. They are prone to verbal and social bullying and often try to start fights. They argue, are rude and while be overall not great. However that's only about 40-50% of the student population. There certainly are amazing students who work hard and are very very nice. There are many students you could count on to be nice and polite. While people do not tend to tell other rude students to stop, they clearly don't agree with bullies or bullying.... 23. Lindsey AcademyLong Beach Unified School District, CA·6-8·Rating 5 out of 5 1 reviewAlum: Guess I'm the 1st review! I promoted from Lindsey a few years ago and I loved my time there and honestly, I miss it. This school unfortunately is underfunded and is not able to provide students the same resources, opportunities, and electives that other schools in the district are able to offer. This does affect the students. However, the teachers and faculty deeply care about the students and do their very best to teach the students and help them personally as well. I love every teacher that I have had there. You can talk to them about anything and they are willing to listen and help you if you need it. They are willing to take the time to help you understand what you are struggling with, and I still learned a lot despite the difficulties and flaws the school faces. Lindsey is very underrated, and could use some help, but it is definitely full of love and support. I'm now a senior and go to a school in an area with much more resources, but I still miss Lindsey middle school very much...
